Komplet guide til, hvordan du tilbereder og serverer wakame til din baby, efter alder.
Sidst gennemgået: maj 2026
For babies aged 6-9 months, wakame must be prepared carefully to eliminate choking hazards. Start with dried wakame, as it allows you to control the sodium content by rinsing it well. Rehydrate the seaweed in warm water for at least 10-15 minutes until it is completely soft and limp. To serve, mince the rehydrated wakame very finely with a sharp knife until it resembles confetti. These tiny pieces can then be stirred into smooth purees, congee, or yogurt. Do not serve whole leaves or strips, as their slippery texture is a significant choking risk. Always supervise your baby during feeding.
Introduce wakame in very small amounts to start, about 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon (1-2 g) of finely minced, rehydrated seaweed. Mix it thoroughly into familiar foods like mashed avocado, oatmeal, congee, or lentil puree to introduce the savory umami flavor. Because wakame is rich in iodine, a crucial nutrient for thyroid function, moderation is key. Pairing it with an iron-rich food like pureed meat or beans is beneficial. Do not add any extra salt, as seaweed contains natural sodium. The goal is flavor exposure and nutrient introduction, not a primary source of calories at this stage.

As your baby develops their pincer grasp between 9 and 18 months, you can adjust the preparation of wakame. Ensure it is fully rehydrated and very soft. Instead of mincing, you can now chop it into small, confetti-like pieces or very short, thin strips, no larger than a pinky nail. This texture encourages self-feeding practice. You can mix these small pieces into scrambled eggs, soft rice balls, or cooked pasta. Continue to avoid long strips. This stage is about introducing texture, so ensure your child is reliably chewing. Always supervise closely and ensure your child is seated upright during meals.
You can increase the serving size to 1-2 teaspoons (2-5 g) of rehydrated, chopped wakame. At this age, it's excellent for adding flavor and nutrients to finger foods. Mix the small pieces into scrambled eggs, savory muffins, or small rice balls (onigiri) to encourage self-feeding and exploration of new textures. To create a balanced meal, serve the wakame-containing dish alongside a source of healthy fat like a smear of avocado and a protein like flaked salmon or tofu. Continue to serve in moderation due to its high iodine content, offering it a few times a week rather than daily.

For toddlers over 18 months with well-developed chewing skills, you can offer larger, more distinct pieces of wakame. After thoroughly rehydrating dried wakame until it is very soft and pliable, cut it into thin, bite-sized strips or small squares, roughly 1/2-inch (1-2 cm) in size. This makes it manageable for them to chew and swallow safely. Avoid serving long, stringy pieces that could pose a choking risk. You can incorporate these pieces into noodle soups, stir-fries, or serve as part of a seaweed salad. Always ensure your toddler is seated and supervised during mealtimes to minimize any risk.
Toddlers can enjoy a slightly larger portion of wakame, about 1 tablespoon (around 5-7 g) of rehydrated, chopped seaweed per serving. Incorporate it into meals like udon noodle soup, mix it into rice, or serve it as a simple side salad. To boost iron absorption, pair the wakame with a food rich in vitamin C, such as a side of bell pepper strips or some mandarin orange slices for dessert. Due to its high concentration of iodine and natural sodium, wakame should be served in moderation and not necessarily every day. Encourage self-feeding with a fork or chopsticks.
